Louis and I spent a weekend in Sokcho last year and it is now on our list of most favourite cities in Korea. Below, I shared some photographs of our tranquil weekend in Sokcho.
Daepo- hang market
One of the seafood dishes this district is famous for, is called squid soondae (오징어 순대) as seen in the pictures below. Soondae (순대) is a popular Korean streetfood believed to date back to the 19th century. This historical blood sausage is made by boiling or steaming the intestines of a cow or pig and then stuffing it with various ingredients of choice. The most popular soondae stuffing is cellophane noodles and.....yes, pork blood. It tastes much less questionable than it sounds, I assure you! Anyway, how can you visit the Abai village and not try this famous dish at what might be a North Korean's little soondae restaurant? If you know some history of the two Koreas, this is a truly humbling experience.
A fish lovers paradise
If you are unable to travel at the moment, you can still learn about another culture and enjoy great food together. Go on, invite someone over, I dare you!
